The MiG-15s and MiG-17s were never returned to South Yemen, and most of their pilots converted to Su-22s. In February 1979, a new war between the two Yemens broke out. It was preceded by skirmishes that involved both air forces: on 25 February, a YARAF MiG-17 was damaged by a 9K32 Strela-2 MANPADS.
- In my last blog, we talked about Russia’s older 4G MIG-XX, 4.5G SU-34/35, and 5G PAK-FA (T-50) fighter jets. The older 4G MIG platforms have an RCS of 15m2, down to 3m2 for the MIG-21. The SU-34s RCS is 1m2. SU-35s are 1m2 to 3m2, according to web sources. The PAK-FA (T-50) has an RCS of 0.5m2, about the same as a Tomahawk cruise missile.

That airplane became the MiG-29/-35 series of fighters. I dunno if you would call a SU-27 an “F-15 killer”, though it was designed - at least in theory - to match it. Given what I’ve seen of the Russians in action in Ukraine as of late, I’m not personally impressed with at least their conventional capabilities.
Pictures taken in July 2020 reportedly showed five Su-35 in EAF camouflage on their delivery voyage. There was also a possibility of future orders for more Su-35 and the new MiG-35. As of January 5, 2022, Egypt, Algeria, and Indonesia have cancelled plans of purchasing the SU-35.
