If you want a capable off-road SUV, look for a '98-'01 Cherokee. If you want more power or luxury than that, the '99+ Grand Cherokee is still a good off-road SUV, but the V8s get terrible fuel economy. As an owner of a 2004 Land Rover Discovery II, I can say from personal experience that they are not reliable.
